I appear mean/suspicious....make bad impressions. Any advice?

It wasn't until recently when I started learning this about myself.....taken me forever to realize that many percieve me as a person who is easilty noticeable. I'm one of those people who sticks out in a crowd. I'll have people who I don't know come up to me and say hi and use my name. I'll say hi, but when I ask them where I know them from they'll tell me they had a class with me or remembered me from somewhere.





I've also grown to be kinda quiet around others.....I think this kinda gives others a bad impression since I seem to stand out so much. I also think that when people initially meet me, they get a suspicious vibe from me that makes some hesitant to want to approach me. People who've gotten to know me say they thought that I was mean before they met me.





This causes me problems with others because.....because people who don't know me sometimes feel like they have to give me a hard time or treat me negatively because I unintentionally gave them a bad impression. I get strong reactions from others without doing anything, some people get scared, some think im mean and dont talk to me, some people automatically don't like me.





Another thing that happens is that, when people start to get to know me, they realize that I'm this nice guy who doesn't really talk much and when I come across certain people, they are nice initially but then after a while, no one really talks to me or acknowledges me.





People who at my job...who know I work there, if I say hi to a person I don't know or who doesn't work in my area, they rarely say hi back or even look in my direction.





Any advice on some changes I should try?

Are you sporting body piercings and tattoos?? Something about the way you look is effecting the way people perceive you. Be a little more specific about your appearance or add a photo..I appear mean/suspicious....make bad impressions. Any advice?
Sometimes I appear stand-offish, but it's usually because I have a lot on my mind. Be aware of your emotions - they become your facial expressions.
