If the cheek is a comfort area for you, then by all means go for it. It will be a really good gauge to measure her reaction. If pleased, she'll probably look down at her shoes and blush. If not, she'll do everything to get away from you.

You need to find out if she feels the same way and if she could only ever see you as a friend, sit down with her and talk about it, keep it light hearted and non-threatening. See how she reacts when you talk about it, don't just go on and kiss her it's not polite and it's hard to take rejection if she doesn't want to. If she says that it's okay and she feels the same way ask her what's okay to do. You just have to talk to her about it!
Send her flirty texts to make her aware that you like her without you looking desperate.
When it's New Year and the countdown begins, hold her hand and smile as they countdown to New Year. Kiss her on the lips gently and say ';Happy New Year'; that is the perfect reason. She wouldn't 'reject' you because it is New Year and everybody is feeling happy. Things could lead on from that kiss..
Do it, man. Be spontaneous and don't think too much. These things are spontaneous, that's the beauty of it. I say it's good a kiss in the cheek. But do it very slow and put your mouth directly on her cheek, very slow, and she'll get the clue, then if she likes it, she will move forward and you're done!
all i can say i was friends with my girl friend before i kissed her. however on her birthday6, she walked into the room and i stopped her and gave her a birthday card. as she was reading it, i kissed her on the lips. after i kissed her, i said here is a brithday gift. and now i am glad that i did that. we have been going toughter now for a while. hope that helps!!
Don't tell anyone or ask her if you can kiss her. Just do it, it will be cute(: I'd love if i had a guy friend i kinda liked and they kissed me unexpectedly. I have always wanted a guy to do that to me.
