Was it good or bad that he said this to me? And any other advice you have too...?

So I auditioned for the musical Beauty and the Beast at my school yesterday. It was my first audition ever.

I had to sing My Country 'Tis of Thee, and the director kept moving it higher in pitch.

Then he asked me if I was in any kind of vocal class, and when I said no, he told me that I should be. Did he say this because I was horrible or because I have potential?

Any other advice about acting or callbacks or my first play is welome too.Was it good or bad that he said this to me? And any other advice you have too...?
From what you have told me, I think the director saw potential in you and would like to see more of what you are capable of = great first impression.

If he out right didn't like you or what you had to offer, you wouldn't have gotten anymore of his time.

Take it as a compliment and keep up the good work.

All the best :)Was it good or bad that he said this to me? And any other advice you have too...?
I agree with DraMuse - the fact that he had you sing in higher and higher pitches tells me he was trying to gauge your range. I would follow his advise and get some voice classes - sounds like you may have discovered another talent. Good Luck!
