I'm 47 and I have suffered from a very bad case of bronchitis all my life. The first time I had bronchitis, I was 3 months so I know what it is. Is it possible that the doctor you've seen gave you the syrup Dimetane Expectorant-C? That syrup does wonders for me but I'm not allergic to codeine. I have bronchitis right now and my doctor is on a sick leave. I asked the Pharmacist if he could recommend something. He told me he could sell this syrup which is almost the same but doesn't have the codeine. The name is Robitussin Total COUGH, COLD %26amp; FLU. Now, it has a terrible taste and I don't know if it was only the codeine that caused your problem. I'm not a doctor so it's just an idea. What would really help would be to have a vapourizer. It also always helps me to put some Vick's on my chest. If you don't get better soon, please see another doctor. I don't believe in taking antibiotics when not needed but they're there for the bad cases. Good Luck!Advice on a bad case of bronchitis please?
I have had bronchitis for the last month and it sucks. My medicine made me sick as well, it made me very nauseous and made me throw-up so I stopped taking it. I haven't taken any other medicine, but the best thing I did was constantly cough and spit out the mucous that comes up. This is the infection and the more you get out the better your will feel and the quicker your cough will go away. I am doing better now, but bronchitis is a viral infection and cannot be cured, so you just have to deal with coughing alot. Drink lots of fluids, cough up the mucus, and gets lots of rest and you will be fine :)
Ask about a nebulizer and albuterol. You put the albuterol (the medicine) in the med cup and the nebulizer makes a very fine mist that you inhale. I work in home respiratory care and this is a common medicine for bronchitis. I hope you feel better soon.
