My grades are so bad...please give me advice?

I am a junior in high school and I was always a good student. I had straight as my freshman and sophomore year taking challenging classes. I am now a junior and my grades stink! Although I am getting an A in English, Pre-Calculus, Health, and Spanish my Physics and AP US History grades are Bs and I have a C in microbiology. I literally balled my eyes out once I got my progress report because I am not used to getting these type of grades at all! I am taking two advanced science classes this semester and I have just been struggling to stay afloat. My microbiology teacher tried to reassure me that there were only 3 grades on my overall grade and me failing the quiz caused my grade to go to a C and that there would be only labs the rest of the semester (which I do fairly well in). My test corrections for physics and APUSH would bring my grades up, as my teachers tell me but I still feel like I have so much on my shoulders. I cannot even properly study for my SAT now because I am so overloaded. Please can you give me advice to help me get through the semester without tarnishing my straight A high school transcript. My grades are so bad...please give me advice?
I just read this book called ';The Organized Student,'; and maybe you need to take a moment to breathe and organize everything that is going on. Maybe you are more stressed and your grades are slipping because now the pressure is on, with the SAT's going on and with thinking about colleges and the future. On top of this, you may feel worse because you feel like you have no control over what is going on. Find organizational strategies that work for you: lists, calendars, planners, post-it notes.

Hope you keep up the good work!My grades are so bad...please give me advice?
This advice is for all: make time to study. If you haven't done this trick, then it could be the trick. Get a daily planner book. Write out the most important things first, then prioritize what time is made for study time for each subject. The classes that you want to work on should get top priority but not as much to have the other classes suffer.

39 weeks preg with bad back...please any advice???

i keep getting awfull lower back ache, not yet had any braxton hicks, or a show although alot of discharge and increased pelvic pressure and a week ago had really bad stomach cramps that lasted about 6hours but went and nothing since.

sometimes the back ache will wake me up in the night and no matter how i lie it still hurts, its mainly on one side and feels like knife going in my muscle,i dont think its contractions because it happens randomly but just curious as to wether its a sign things are moving along??

any help is appreciated thankyou.39 weeks preg with bad back...please any advice???
back ache is normal in late stages of pregnancy but in saying that All I had when I was in labour with my son was a constant back ache that would not leave me it would come in waves stronger then faint then strong again.

If your backache becomes constant go to the hospital.

I think things are moving along for you and you should be having your baby soon.

best of luck to you.39 weeks preg with bad back...please any advice???
For some women discharge starts ti increase as they are approaching the end of their pregnancy When I was expecting both my sons I had a lot of discharge throughout.

An increase and thickening in discharge towards the end of the pregnancy may be a sign that your approaching pregnancy. Yu can use pads to help it from staining your knickers.

As for the back pain you can buy pillows designed for pregnancy which you put between your legs.
see a physio and get some acupuncture - worked wonders for me during late pregnancy. Really, it made the difference between not being able to walk or sleep for the back ache and becoming something like a normal person.
Backaches are usually caused by the strain put on the back muscles, changing hormone levels, and changes in your posture.

Recommendations:

1. Wear low-heeled (but not flat) shoes.

2. Avoid lifting heavy objects.

3. Squat down with your knees bent when picking things up instead of bending down at the waist.

4. Don't stand on your feet for long periods. If you need to stand for long periods, place one foot on a stool or box for support.

5. Sit in a chair with good back support, or place a small pillow behind your lower back. Also place your feet on a footrest or stool.

6. Check that your bed is firm. If needed, put a board between the mattress and box spring.

7. Sleep on your left or right side with a pillow between your legs for support.

8. Apply a hot water bottle, heating pad on low setting, take a warm bath or shower, or try massage.

9. Perform exercises, as advised by your doctor, to make your back muscles stronger and help relieve the soreness.

10. Maintain good posture. Standing up straight will ease the strain on your back.

Contact your doctor if you have a low backache that goes around your stomach and does not go away within one hour after you change position or rest. This might be a sign of premature labor.
I think this is labour just a slow progression Go to the hospital as you may need a little help to get things moving.Try walking about as 39 weeks is classed as full term I was 38 weeks when I recently had my daughter 4.5 weeks ago.Best wishes
you could be in back labor... i would call your doctor or hospital and get checked. a lot of times you will just have severe lower backache and no contractions....

lacey
Your baby is growing and just has its weight on a nerve or two causing your back pain. It may also just be weight displacement with the baby; when lying on your side, throw a pillow between your legs to help alleviate pain in your spine.
Maternity pillows

backrubs

hot showers on back

hot bath

pain killers? (ones u can take)

Hope I helped. Good luck honey

Also, slow deep relaxed breathing might help move things along as your body relaxes

  • Adult advice please!:little white lie gone bad?

Alright i am 19 yrs old and in college as a commuter so i am fairly responsible now.I pay for my books/nessaries and my parents pay for tuition as well as my car insurance ect.I went through a hard rocky time with my parents because they were so overly protective and strict never letting me do anything. I wanted to rebell in any way i could.Things are much better with my parents now but my last year of high school i did something stupid i wanted a credit card but since my parents said no .I choose to use my dads SS number to get one i started using it to buy whatever i wanted for compulsive emotional reasons.I finally have just about paid everything off.Do i tell my parents or just cancell the card?Adult advice please!:little white lie gone bad?
Pay it off then tell them. It will show on his report and he may begin a fraud investigation that ends in your lap.

This ain't a white lie in the eyes of the law; it's identity theft and credit card fraud.Adult advice please!:little white lie gone bad?
You should tell them. That is the adult thing to do. They should be adults about it as well and see that you took care of it and it is all over. Just think about what will happen if they check their credit report and see you commited fraud.

    I wanted to add

When I was a kid, my dad bought me a brand new stereo for Christmas. I knew it was expensive and I knew that I had to take care of it. My dad was not an easy going guy. One day in January, I was listening to a record(you may not know what that is hehe) and the dust cover to the stereo was on my bed. I was dancing around the room and plopped down on my bed. I broke the cover. I thought about hiding it from my dad but knew that he would find out one day and he would tear into me for lying and hiding things. So when he got home from work I handed him his belt. When he asked what it was for I told him what happened, through tears and a lump in my throat. He laughed at me, then he helped me fix it. That was it. Be an adult about it. Tell them.
Yikes! Yeah pay it off. Cancel the card. If your real brave tell them in like 10 years.
cancel the card then pay it off.

    don't tell them about it.

    never do this again.
That is a hard one. Pay off the card and cancel it. That needs to be your first step. Is your relationship really strong now or just on the mend. If its just on the mend you may want to wait a bit before telling them this. I hope you were never late on the payments because that will affect his credit and he may find out.
If you have the card still, the statement has to be going somewhere. Is it going to their house? If it is, then they already know about it.

You should pay for the card completely and ASAP then tell your parents. Not a little white lie either, if they get really pissed, you need to suffer the consequences of this one.

I can't believe you did that! Amazing? I thought I was bad in high school, guess I was a good kid.
Finish paying off the card and cancel it if you can. Next tell your parents that you are really happy that your relationship with them is on the mend but you have one more thing that needs resolution. Then confess. It will be up to them to decide what they are going to do with the information you provide them.
pay it off, cut it up, and save it to show them... and when you tell them be sure to say, your sorry, and should never had done it, and explain just what you did to us that you don't want to jeopardize your relationship with them but at the same time you feel the need to be honest with them and you did not want to keep this from them any longer because it was dishonest, and you want to put that type of behavior behind you. and if you want some points, when you say your sorry, tell them you feel bad, because they did not raise you to act like that. and why you did is still a mystery to even you. that helps them to eliminate the ';where did we go wrong'; feeling.

and you need to tell them, if they do a credit report and report that that is not ther card,,, they will flag the card, and when you use it... you could go to jail. you are over 18.. and it is serious.
Run the card through a shredder and pay the balance off. If your parents ask you about it if they find it on their credit report....tell them first that you are sorry, but you ran into some financial trouble and wanted to try and be responsible. You have paid the debt AND learned your lesson. You will understand if they are mad, but tell them again you are sorry. You might be surprised at how forgiving they will be OR they might ream you up one side and down the other. Either way....they will talk to you again....because they will always be your parents.
If you were ever late on a payment, even just once, you have to tell them. It would have been reported to the credit agencies, and would be a bad mark on his credit.

I would really suggest you tell them, tell them you are SO sorry, you realize how wrong what you did was, and then deal with whatever consequences there may be. What you did was not only wrong, it was illegal. Since it's your parents, and you've paid it off, it's not likely they'd turn you in, but they deserve to know they were victims of identity theft, and it should be you who tells them. If it were anyone else, you'd be in prison. I think you should take whatever punishment or anger that comes your way with grace.

You need to rethink your definition of ';little white lie.'; This is NOT it. This is a long-term, illegal lie.
If your dad ever checks his credit report. Your card will show up under his SSN.

I'll tell you a little trick about coming clean about lies to your parents or anyone. You tell them that I need to tell you something, promise not to be mad. (And you make them promise). As humans, it's hard for us to be mad at someone after you've already promised not to be. And if they try to get mad, you remind them of the promise.

However, since you've already paid the card off. Just tell your dad, and ask for his help in getting the card cancelled and out of his record. Parents really like it when they can still help their kids after they're grown up. It makes them feel needed and it gives them a piece of their little girl back again.

Your relationship with your parents always gets better once you move out of the house and keeps on improving. You start to realize that they were right about somethings and they also start treating you more like an adult. You guys will laugh about this in the future.
    Pay it off

    Cancel the card

    Tell your parents

    Don't wait to do this
Keep this to yourself (just hope your parents are not on YA). No need to retroactively worry your parents. If they do find out you can still tell them that this was case of temporary insanity and that you have paid everything off.
You gotta tell them before they find out. Hey, YOU made the mistake and are now trying to avoid the consequences of your actions. Tell the truth, take your medicine and move on.

Plus the tone of your first paragraph suggests that your fraudulent actions are your parents' fault. The sooner you take full responsibility for your adult behavior, the happier you'll be.

BTW, this ain't no white lie. It's a felony. Be happy you're not spending time in jail.
Your parents could charge you with credit card theft. Pay off the bill immediately before interest charges are laid. Major credit cards have average 18% interest charge per month. You need to get your own credit card, you are of age now. You may have to get secondary credit card, not a major credit card like Visa, Mastercard or American Express. You may be able to get a Store credit card. Don't screw up their credit rating. Find another outlet besides excessive spending. Do something that is positive, not negative towards yourself.

Your parents may forgive you if they have an open heart and mind. I would tell them definately, they will respect you more if you did that, before the next statement comes out and then they won't be so shocked, and that you have made payments on it.

    Hi,

    You could get from here:

did you just realize you were moving this week? You had to know this a little bit before hand! Plus to get a personal loan it takes at least a week from applying for the loan for them to approve it and cut the check. And if you're moving to NYC you gotta have SOME cash.....the rent there is psycho expensive!
if you already have bad credit then the last thing you need is a loan. Find other alternatives.
    Hello

I have really bad blackheads on my nose..any advice?.?

yeah okay i use the wave and it helps pretty good like on my chin, cheeks, and forehead. but i have very bad blackheads on my nose.any help?I have really bad blackheads on my nose..any advice?.?
biore nose strips and then after shave or alcohol, to close the pores, so they dont clogg agiain and use anticomedogenic make up onlyI have really bad blackheads on my nose..any advice?.?
I would actually advise you to not use biore strips or any similar strips. The strips remove the superficial layer of both the skin and the blackheads. If you have oily or sensitive skin, this will really make matters worse. And I nkow this from personal experience. I've never used a comedone extractor but I have heard that it does help get rid of them. It basically will take away the sebum and dirt or whatever it is that is in the pores without ripping off skin.
Biore' Deep Cleansing Pore Strips work WONDERS on me. I had about 60 blackheads on one side of my nose (no joke, there was literally around 60 blackheads) and using these strips got rid of all of them. They are awesome! When you peal the strip off your nose, you can see little columns of gunk that come out of the blackheads (which proves that they actually take the gunk out to keep them from reappearing). These are definitely the way to go to get rid of blackheads. Trust me, these are WONDERFUL!!
those work to. I use clearisal ultra and it works. I also make sure i dont wear make up like any kind of foundation that can clog it really bad. the liquid is really bad
I have heard a remedy as simple as toothpaste can work on blackheads. I did that myself when I was in high school years back, kind of worked then.
omggg so do i!!!! i use the bior strips they work most of the time u have to to it like every day tho. but use clearasil or clean and clear wash aslo it works
    Do u have acne.

If so, see yur doctor and get put on 'isotane'

IT WORKS, gets rid off everything.

But can be a dangerous drug sometimes.

    Just talk to the doctor(=
    buy a comedone extractor
    Biore pore strips! they're magic!
    Hi!

Exfoliate totally TRY IT!!!!!!!!!!Dry coffee (ground) on moist skin, rub in gentle circles 30 seconds and rinse! Beware of messiness lol.

Also try witch hazel as a toner/ facial astringent, cost around 2$ at the pharmacy, apply liberally to your face after washing and allow it to air dry. Witch hazel will normalize your skin and help it self-regulate.

I actually found a natural 100% plant extracts facial oil that slows down your skins oil production, clears up pimples/ acne and dissolves black heads within 4-8 weeks I put all the info on my blog as it's quite detailed:

    http://beautymoi.blogspot.com

I also put a full article of how to extract blackheads and steam your skin.

Black heads are basically a hardened oil mixture that was secreted from your pores and oxidized (which makes the outside part black) and since water and oil don't mix, no water based product can ';clean'; your blackheads away, just try say putting certain foundations or makeups on the mirror and if you wipe it with water it smudges all over but put a little baby oil and wipe and tada! it comes off super clean AND dissolves it. So this is basically how this oil works. It's composition is such that the skin accepts it as a healing oil and it does not clog your skin but rather protects it while the plant extracts inside go down into the pores (this absorption is made possible by applying the toner to the skin before applying the oil and then applying the dabs of oil over your moistened face), it then penetrates into the pores.

I put where to the name of the oil and prices in stores versus on eBay as well as how to apply it on my blog:

    http://beautymoi.blogspot.com

Also be sure to check out all the links on my blog as they have lots of info!!!

For acne you may want to look on Google for Drying Lotion by Mario Badescu.

    Take care and good luck!

I am the bad tenant - need legal advice - added mental health issue?

I have lived in a duplex for six years. For the first four years, everything was fine. I have been in treatment for severe depression/anxiety disorder since 2000. For the past two years, it has been getting worse and I am afraid that my house bore the brunt. I was completely unable to clean my house or take out trash for almost two years.

Here is the current situation. I have stepped up my treatment, I have admitted to my therapist the situation, something I had been unable to do before. I was not evicted from my house and the rent is up to date but I am now living in a new house.

The problem is, I cannot get everything out of the old house. It is trashed. There is no structural damage aside from a hole in one bedroom wall (drywall) which was a complete accident and will be simple to fix. There is trash everywhere. I have tried almost daily to get over there and clean it out. I have no local support system, no close family and even my church was unable to help, which really upset me. Because of my mental health issues, I cannot even walk in the front door of the old house without dissolving into tears.

I have written a letter to my landlord which I will deliver along with the key this Saturday. I am taking full responsibility for the cleaning and repairs and am offering to set up a payment plan to repay them for any costs beyond the security deposit.

I have my new landlord as well as a counselor coming over to make regular home visits to the new house to make sure this doesn't happen again. I am doing everything I can think of to make amends.

I am scared that my old landlord will get really nasty over this, and while I wouldn't blame him if he did, I am hoping he will take my situation into consideration and let me make this right.

I would love to hear from tenants and landlords alike on this subject as well as any advice from mental health professionals.

What are my rights? What are my responsibilities?I am the bad tenant - need legal advice - added mental health issue?
The main issue is that you didn't start planning for this inevitability several months ago. When you decided to move, you should have started calling house cleaners and getting quotes. To save money, you even could have posted an ad on a local campus somewhere to get cheap labor. I understand that your friends failed you, which only added to your depression, but there were other options.

Now, it's 5 days before everything is supposed to be done, and you are on here. I understand depression and I understand that it's so hard just to get out of bed, much less deal with emotional issues, especially when they are your fault. It just becomes this awful cyclical torture. I'm depressed so I didn't take care of it. Because I didn't take care of it, I'm depressed.

You are in the Real Estate section, so I will answer your question as a Landlord. If this were my property, because I understand depression somewhat, I would be hesitant to allow ';payments'; to be drawn out longer than 2 months because I know that while the person may mean to pay it off, another bout of depression hits and they disappear for 6 months.

The other thing you need to consider is that if it's a management company, or anything that's any kind of formal business (Inc, LLC, etc), they are going to be far more likely to abide by your contract and the laws. Meaning they will give you a certain amount of days to pay for the damages and then may choose to take legal action.

An independent landlord will be more likely to cut you slack, especially if you've had a good relationship with him in the past.

Your responsibilities are to pay for the cleaning of the property in the time allotted by the landlord. Your rights are that if you do so, it will not affect your credit.I am the bad tenant - need legal advice - added mental health issue?
    you can pretty much kiss you security deposit goodbye - hopefully he won't come after you for any more money for ';cleaning';

either that or hire someone to help you clean it out
Well for that you should see http://biznuss.net

i hope that resolve your problem keep using answers.yahoo.com
Your responsibility will be to pay for the gutting and cleaning, replacement of carpet, and paint - or whatever it takes to restore the property to livable.

If it is that upsetting for you to enter the duplex, and you can afford to pay soemone to do it, then by all means, do so. Maybe try googling ';cleaning crew'; and your city or something to see if there is a hirable service that can do this for you. OR - ask your landlord who he uses in situations like this, and then go do it yourself (cheaper that way).

If he gets nasty, he gets nasty. You are doing the right thing, and that is above and beyond what a lot of people do these days.
Of course he will keep your security deposit and charge you for the damages. If you cant pay him within a reasonable amount of time he will take you to court. It would be much easier if you hired someone to come in to clean before handing over the keys.

okay me and this guy have been friends for a looonnnggg time, then he started going out with my bestfriend on and off for 2 years and the on and off dating has been going on until now. me and the guy were hanging out on friday at his house because he invited me over cuz he just broke up with my best friend again,

we were just hanging out then we started drinking beer and having alot of fun, and we both go really drunk and started making out and ended up having sex...

then later i left and we didnt talk about it, and at school he told a friend and another friend and another friend and my bestfriend, who he just broke with heard about it. it was bad she got really mad and started saying **** to everyone, but obviously i lied about it to everyone but she knows we did.

and today after school me and the guy talked about it and he ended up tellling me he loved me alott, and wants to go out. when he said it i was shocked and hung upo the phone,

i need some advice on this, yeahh btw im 15.... dont say im immature and way to young because i know i am. i just need advice.Okay this sounds bad but i need advice...?
Well, we all make unwise decisions, but if you want to avoid another unwise one, better stay away from the alcohol. Be careful about the ';I love you'; phrases. They shouldn't be thrown around like that and it sounds like this guy (even though he's been a friend for two years) is playing with your emotions. I think you should keep your distance and try to patch up with your friends that were hurt. It would mean the world to them.

best wishes!Okay this sounds bad but i need advice...?
First of all did you use protection to prevent a pregnancy? How about a condom? You should dump this person and wait till you are ready for a real man.One who wont tell and respects you.

I have a bad vegetarian diet, need advice?

I became a vegetarian about 5 yrs ago when I was 13. I admit that the time i've been a vegetarian, I probably haven't eaten a very healthy diet. My whole family is meat buyers and unhealthy ones at that. They basically only stock the fridge with meat, carbs, and frozen junk. Rarely do we have real vegetables, besides frozen microwaved ones (which i doubt have any nutrition at all). The only fruits we have are bananas and grapes which i try to eat every day. Other than that, the only non frozen veggies is iceberg lettuce salad in a bag. Sometimes spinach which I try to eat a lot of when it's there. It's difficult for me to get to the store to buy my own food so I usually just eat whatevers available.

Anyway, this diet has taken a toll on me. I am weak, skinny and lacking in muscles. I could go on about the health problems I have. Any advice? What foods should I start eating? what is the most nutritious? thanksI have a bad vegetarian diet, need advice?
Good news is now that you're an adult you can shop for your own food and get yourself lots of nutritious choices! You need to take some responsibility for your diet to make sure you are getting the nutrients you need. If you can get to the store yourself, go along when your parents go and get your own foods.

Frozen veggies are actually very healthy -- sometimes moreso than fresh -- providing they don't have any sauces or anything on them. That's because they're picked at the peak of their ripeness and flash frozen to retain all the nutrients. I personally don't think they taste as good, however.

I think since you haven't had a lot of exposure to different fruits and veggies, try stuff out and see what you like. Buy a different kind of fruit or veggie every week to start building your repertoire! Going to the library and checking out a few veggie cookbooks would give you some ideas for meals. Websites like vegweb.com are also good for recipes.

The most inexpensive veggie food is probably rice and beans. Dry beans are extremely cheap, though I use canned myself because they're more convenient (they're still really cheap!). Choose brown rice over white rice and you've got a complete meal right there. Cooking it in some veggie broth will give it more flavor.

Some good foods to have around include dark leafy greens, whole grains, beans, assorted fruits, hummus, orange veggies (like carrots and sweet potatoes), nuts and dried fruit, and cereals (like oats for oatmeal).I have a bad vegetarian diet, need advice?
Wow, sorry your family isn't more supportive of your lifestyle. I would recomend more whole grains and beans in your diet for proteins and vitamins. Bulgar wheat, quinoa, and oats are great grains and any type of bean is excellent. Also, do a little research online and find recipes for making vegi burgers and falafel, they are really good and ur family would probably like them too, maybe ask your mom if you can add the ingred's to the shopping list. Frozen vegis are nutritious and even better than the canned ones so don't feel too bad about that. Try to get a bigger variety of fruits too. If you are driving now then you need to go to the store and do some shopping for yourself if your family isn't willing to help. Good luck!
Read, read and read some more! Do all the research you can, check books out of the library and join veggie groups online. The best way is to do the veggie thing is to do it right, and fully armed with a boatload of knowledge. I was 14 years old and totally depended on food that my parents bought when I decided to give up meat so I know exactly what you're going through. If you're serious about being vegetarian in a healthful way, you'll have to take more responsibility for yourself and your diet, especially with nonsupporting family.

Chances are, if you're still eating eggs and dairy, you don't have any trouble getting enough protein. But do make sure you're getting it from other sources too, like beans, lentils, nuts, seeds, etc. Luckily, these foods are often inexpensive so it shouldn't be too hard for you to stock your own pantry with them. Veggie burgers (and other meat substitues or soy products like tofu) make a nice, quick alternative too, though they can definitely get pricey. Just don't rely on them too much!

Calcium can be another concern for vegetarians but again, if you're eating dairy, you'll probably meet your daily need with no problem. Dark green veggies, like kale or broccoli, are some other great sources!

Vitamin B-12 is a concern for vegans but you didn't mention omitting dairy from your diet so I'll assume you don't need to worry about that.

One mineral you really need to make sure you get enough of is iron. Like vitamin B-12, iron is a crucial component of red blood cells. Dried beans and peas, lentils, enriched cereals, whole-grain products, dark leafy green vegetables, and dried fruit are good sources of iron. To help your body absorb nonanimal sources of iron, eat foods rich in vitamin C - such as strawberries, citrus fruits, tomatoes, cabbage and broccoli - at the same time you consume iron-containing foods.

On to the fun part of being vegetarian - food! I suspect that you'll find, as I did, a whole new world of food and flavors opens up to you when you start to do some research! Don't be afraid to experiment and try things you've never heard of before. Make it fun! You probably don't do much of your own grocery shopping yet, but I love to pick up one thing each time I go that I've never heard of before or that seems foreign and exotic. (I thoroughly scan the ingredient list first, of course!) Then I'll look it up when I get home and try to find a recipe that uses it. It might be a fun way for you and your guardian(s) to be active together in your diet!

You also might want to offer to cook a meal for your family once a week, if they'll buy the groceries for it. That way, you can introduce your family to some healthier alternatives as well as ensure you'll get at least one awesome meal a week! If you get excited about your diet and have fun with it, chances are that it will rub off on them, at least a little bit!

Luckily, in addition to tons of cookbooks, there are a plethora of vegetarian recipe sites out there so you shouldn't have any trouble at all finding some recipes that are healthy and yummy! I'll include one or two of my favorites at the end of my answer. Give them a go - they're pretty easy and scrumptious!

And if you're ever looking for some obscure veggie food that you can't find in your local grocery or health food store, hop on over to Food Fight! at http://store.foodfightgrocery.com/index.鈥?/a> They'll send that vegan haggis you were craving right to your door!

There are a couple of great magazines you might want to subscribe to also. (They make great presents - just drop the hint to your loved ones around your birthday or holidays!) I know it helps me feel connected to the veggie community - I'm the only vegan I know in my ';real'; life!

    Black Bean Burgers with Guacamole

Perfect with a side of spicy fries!

1 can black beans (15 oz or so - doesn't have to be precise)

    1/4 cup diced yellow onion

1/2 cup diced red bell pepper

    1/2 tsp ground cayenne pepper

    1 egg substitute *

    1 cup seasoned bread crumbs

2 Tbsp fresh chopped cilantro (2 tsp if using dried)

    2 Tbsp olive oil

Top with guacamole (or salsa or sprouts or all of it!)

Rinse black beans. In a large bowl, mash black beans then add onion, bell pepper, cayenne pepper, egg substitute, vegan bread crumbs and cilantro. Blend until all ingredients are mixed well. Form bean mixture into patties and place on a baking pan or cookie sheet (spray pan with non-stick spray). Bake at 350 for 10 mins. Or you can fry them in olive oil. (If you have the time, it's great to bake them first and them throw them in the frying pan with a touch of oil. That way, they cook thoroughly from the oven and get nice and crispy on the outside from the pan!)

    Guacamole

3 avocados, peeled, pitted and mashed

    1 lime, juiced

    1 tsp salt

    1/2 cup diced onion

3 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro (3 tsp if using dried)

    2 roma (plum) tomatoes, diced

    1 tsp minced garlic

1 pinch ground cayenne pepper (optional)

In a medium bowl, mash together the avocados, lime juice, and salt. Mix in onion, cilantro, tomatoes, and garlic. Stir in cayenne pepper. Refrigerate 1 hour for best flavor, or serve immediately.

    General Tao's Tofu

Awesome served over rice with steamed broccoli! This recipe is actually the most popular on www.vegweb.com and with good reason. It's delicious! I even got my tofu-phobic dad to try it and he was hooked! There is actually a video on the website that walks you through making it, step by step. Follow this link to check it out: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=8769.0鈥?/a>

    1 box firm tofu

    1 egg substitue *

    3/4 cup cornstarch

    vegetable oil for frying

    3 chopped green onions (scallions)

    1 Tbsp minced ginger

    1 Tbsp minced garlic

    2/3 cup vegetable stock

2 Tbsp soy sauce or tamari

    4 Tbsp sugar

    red pepper to taste

    1 Tbsp white vinegar

Drain, dry and cut tofu into 1 inch chunks. You can freeze tofu the night before to get a more chicken-like consistency, but it isn't necessary. Mix the egg replacer as specified on the box and add an additional 3 tablespoons water. Dip tofu in egg replacer/water mixture and coat completely. Sprinkle 3/4 cup cornstarch over tofu and coat completely. Watch out that the cornstarch doesn't clump up at the bottom of the bowl.

Heat oil in pan and fry tofu pieces until golden. Drain oil.

Heat 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil in pan on medium heat. Add green onions, ginger and garlic, cook for about 2 minutes. Be careful not to burn garlic. Add vegetable stock, soy sauce, sugar, red pepper and vinegar. Mix 2 Tablespoons water with 1 Tablespoon cornstarch and pour into mixture stirring well. Add fried tofu and coat evenly. Serve immediately with broccoli and rice.

    ------

    * I use Ener-G egg replacer, which you can now find in most well-stocked supermarkets and definitely in health food stores. You can also get it at Food Fight, of course! (http://store.foodfightgrocery.com/eneggr鈥?/a> I'm sure just using the egg would work too, if you're not vegan. ;-)

Good luck! If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me. I'm more than happy to spread the veggie love! And just remember, above all else, stay healthy and informed!
Well firstly if your a vegan that eats dairy that will be your saving grace eat lots of it if you do; butter, chesse and lots of milk to keep your bones strong it will also have the fats you'll miss from meat so its v good for you. If how ever you dont try soya milk it takes some getting used to but try sweetened its got the calcium you will need.

As you say your weak get some multi vitamins to help your body along if your malnourished you'll start getting infections and getting sick easily (if you dont already) plus fish is great omega 3 is good for you. oily fish has been known to help the skin and nails.

If your a vegan that doesn't eat fish then dont forget your carbs tho you cant live on these alone it is possible to have a balanced diet and be a vegan rice, pasta, potatoes an cos cos will all provide your energy. Theres also lentil's and various beans.

May be you could start by getting a vegan cook book to star with these will give you ideas on what to by.

You obviously need fruit and veg but you need a mixture as different one give different vitamins fruit juices will help.

Try to encourage your family to joint in a bit.
Avocados are a vegetarian's best friend. Eat them on bread, or mash them and make guacamole out of them.

    Eat nuts...

Lentils are important - but yucky if eaten plain. Look up a recipe for lentil loaf.

    Sprouts. Eat Tempe sandwiches.

    Olives.

Lots of romaine and red leaf lettuce.

Make sure you make whole grain rice.

Experiment with the whole gamut of beans.

Buy ';hummus.'; Try ';falafel.'; These can be bought in a regular grocery store.

Vegetarian chili - even if you don't want to cook it from scratch, Hormel maks vegetarian chili in a can that you can put on a baked potato.

Try TVP - textured vegetable protein.

Go to Whole Foods and buy something called ';Field Roast'; - it's a lunchmeat with no meat, made without soy.

Lots of things go good with sauerkraut, which is very good for you.

Try other vegetables like spaghetti squash, butternut squash, collard greens, swiss chard, for variety. (They go good together, too.) Make with your whole grain rice...yummy.

If you can eat fish, salmon is your best bet - 50% less heart disease for people who eat a pound of salmon a week.

Eggs are really good for you too.

When you go to the store, buy tons of frozen stuff so you don't have to keep going very often (since you don't get there often.) When you cook things, cook way too much and put in plastic containers in the freezer, that way you don't get stuck eating the junk that your family has around when you don't feel like cooking.

    Buy organic wholegrain breads.

Most important thing is to buy a big thing of olive oil and use it on toast instead of butter. Good oils are very important for your body - avoid oils like butter, canned oil sprays.

I like to cook zucchini and yellow squash, all chopped up, in a jar of chopped tomatoes with olive oil (and onions) added. Add a can of Garbanzo beans and serve over rice. Very cheap and yummy - and you can freeze several containers of it for later.
You need to find a protein source you do like. Peanut butter, soy products, vegetables if they did exist in you house. These things will give you energy. If you are carb loading which is what sounds like what you are doing you are eating and get a burst of energy and drop like a rock. That is what carbs do they have no lasting power. I eat a breakfast cookie - bizzylizzybakery.com an online bakery sends them to my home and I eat one or two a day when I am rushed or two lazy to cook. They have 4 grams of carbs ( the good ones) and 7 grams of protein. You need to get some vegetables an fruit. The sad part about bad eating habits is that they are not always visual but if you are having outward signs you are probably messing things up inside too. EAT Better and do it now. Also check out the sources I gave you they both are loaded with information that will help you make good choices.
i'm a vegetarian too and what i like to eat is spinach lasagna, grilled cheese, pasta's with maranara sauce, veggie pizzas, and i luv subway because they have a veggie delight sandwich. Just make sure u get plenty of iron and omega 2 and 3's.

Should I feel bad about this? Need advice?

I'm 25 and met this girl last night and we just hit it off. She was super attractive, had the most amazing body ever, and one thing lead to another throughout the night and next thing I knew she was getting on me undressing, asking if I had anything she needed to know about. I'm clean, she is 28 and said she was clean and fixed so she couldn't have kids (to explain that, she is divorced and has a few kids already), so we did it. After wards, she said she doesn't usually do that, but I was different and turned her on. I think she liked me alot and wants to see me again, so i don't think it's going to be a one night stand, but I still feel bad because it was unlike me, careless, dumb and have some ';what if's'; going through my mind. I definitely won't do it again, lesson learned, but curious if I feel like this just because its my first time 'hooking up' with someone i dont really know, or what? Would most guys honestly have been able to say no in that situation?Should I feel bad about this? Need advice?
Sure she's never done that before. That's what she tells all the guys especially the virgins. Congratulations for obeying your other brain instead of using the one on your shoulders.Should I feel bad about this? Need advice?
Most guys couldn't say no, but they should be smart enough to say no. I hope you wore a condom. Just because a woman says she's clean, doesn't mean she is. I hope you were lucky this time and she didn't give you an STD or Aids.

Just remember, no matter how good sex is, it's never worth dying for.
99% of guys could probably not resist that. It's the woman's job to control herself because most men cannot control themselves.

We get guys all horny and then what are they supposed to do? Walk away? If women didn't want to be put into situations like that, they shouldn't act like sluts.
Dont over analyse- you did what you did and what you did was not something bad. You sound like a nice guy though so if this behaviour doesnt make you feel good remember that next time. She sounds like a predator!!
As long as you wrapped it up, what's to worry about? She might have said she was ';fixed'; but you don't know her from Adam and strangers lie about lesser things.

EDIT: Armywife has *got* to be kidding. Right?
First of all you should have used protection matter what she said. Secondly shyt happens...get over it.
no get what ever a clean one is giving.

Is this a bad idea?? I need advice.?

Where I work, we have been given this survey to fill out where we offer anonymous comments about our thoughts and feelings about the direction the company is going in. We are also supposed to offer ideas for things that might boost the morale of the office. I had a few ideas but I'd like to run them by on here before I jot them down...

    a) Toga Fridays---Everyone in the office wears a toga, complete with that funky green crown on their heads.

    b) One day of the week, preferably on Wednesday (hump day) slapping and touching of rear ends (like football players) is acceptable.

    c) Siestas between 1:30 and 2:30 are allowed.

Your thoughts on these ideas????Is this a bad idea?? I need advice.?
you would be the perfect boss for me ....come here you let me hug ya for being the most intelligent man in the work force by far....

Ill take c) as a quickie insteadIs this a bad idea?? I need advice.?
i like a and c a lot but i think b is really redundant. you can't give themes to two days of the week! it's either a theme for friday, which is customary, a theme for every day, or none at all. maybe you should just make that kind of thing acceptable every day and not have to worry about it. i've found that it really raises office morale. run this by the boss; i'm sure he'll agree.
    eerrmmm........

they really wont take you seriously!!

maybe a dress down friday (so you can wear whatever you want....maybe YOU should wear a toga!!! lol)

longer lunch hour?? one half day?? more flexible hours?? (then you go take a siesta, lol)

just completely bypass the whole slapping idea....

ongoing funny competitions......(like, whose but crack is this, or baby photo etc. etc.)

i know, i know..... i sound really dull now, but they would NEVER take your original ideas seriously, if they did it would be LEGENDARY!!! lol.
I would say no to all 3. First of all, Toga Fridays? Honestly I wouldn't want to wear a toga at work... Second, the slapping of rears is just asking for a harassment plea.. Siestas should be your lunch break. Sorry to sound like a hum-bug but its just my thoughts maybe instead of Toga Fridays, be Casual friday. Something along those lines
ahm... i can't really say if they are good or bad ideas cause first of all, i need to know what kind of work do you do, and second is what kind of people work there?

though A and C is a fun event...

    :D
    I think their weird...

    But try these ones:

    1. Food Day- All have to bring in a peice of food each and then have party with them at the end of the day.

    2. 60-80's all dress up as that time period, afros, big glasses, shoes, swishy skirts.

    3. OPOSIT SEX DAY! Men dress as women, Women dress as men.
The siesta one seems like a good idea though maybe an hour is a bit much. The other two ideas seem to be asking for trouble, but they are funny.
yes to B and C but B but A is dumb sorry but ya b is pretty funny but they will say no because the work world wants to make sure you don't enjoy your time there
hahaha:p okay well if you want them to take you siriously i think you should cahnge it up.

for example maybe siestas can be half an hour long (explaination:people work better when they are rested)
    A. Yes

    B. Perverted

    C. Umm... Yeah, I guess

Every Monday Should Be Halloween. You should dress weird every monday!
Like the workplace ideas - not too sure about the togos - some people just do not belong in a toga
I would go for the 3rd one cuz im so lazy all of the others are wack or u can get suspended for harassments so yea

    ~~Amber~~
    What, no Hawaiian shirt day?

    I am appalled!
How about Thursdays, maybe you could actually work on this particular day eh?
It would be funny, but they wouldn't take them seriously.
    its anonymous just do it

they probably wont take them seriously
I think HR is going to want to talk to you
i like them, but idea number 2(B) should be on friday.
how about more time off to boost the morale you are asking for lawsuits
    The second one sounds perverted
You're gonna need to find a new job!
    LOL.

    Those are funny ;o)

    And yes...bad idea.
your an idiot...but you go right ahead and fill out the survey.......
    Love your ideas!
    Great Ideas....LOL...!!
Relax its sunday..., leave work at work.
how bout wicked tie tuesday where everyone wears a crazy tie.

    but iike c aslo
thats great. i love all of them. dont forget about happy hour mondays. those would be nice
    You're kidding, right?
I like C...unless by A you mean I can wear my sheets to work?
lol they will never let u guys do that

Can you afford to pay one more months rent and just make a deal with yourself that you will fill one garbage bag a day?

If you are able, I think the sense of accomplishment will go far in repairing your self esteem. But it is ok if you still cannot.

It will cost the landlord a few hundred probably to clean it out. Make your payment plan, but be prepared for the possibility that he may sue you. Then you will have a judgment against you if you ever go to buy a house or a new car. Sounds like that isn't in your foreseeable future though, so let it go.

The trick here is to do everything right this time, and not beat yourself up over what you did wrong. Look forward, not back.

Good luck. Sounds like you are on the mend.I am the bad tenant - need legal advice - added mental health issue?
This is really not as difficult as you make it sound. All you have to do is hire a maid to go over there, clean up the place, and bring anything valuable over to your new apartment.
You can hire a cleaning service to come in and clean it for you.
So, you can post online but can't clean your house. Truly, you make me sick.

I did something bad, I need SERIOUS advice please?

Its Wednesday and its 9:40am. I smoke a bowl of weed on Sunday Morning. I've been so stressed out at work that's the only reason why! I know i did an awful thing by doing that I know. I never smoke, So im not a frequent user at all! Its been 3 days, would my system be clean for a drug test today? At about 4 pm? I got about 4 to 5 hits on the pipe. PLEASE HELP ME!

serious answers only, i guess what I want to hear is that it's gone.I did something bad, I need SERIOUS advice please?
I doubt it. I've tested positive with one shotgun after having been clean for a month. A single use can test positive for 1-6 days (http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_testing.shtml) Those tests are really precise.

It sounds like you havn't been trying to get it out of your system the past few days so the best advice I can give you is start drink a lot of water, so the test will be too diluted to produce any conclusive result. Take some b vitamins to color your pee, so it doesn't look so diluted.

When you've got an inconclusive result they'll probably have to redo the test, but it'll buy to enough time for it to get out of your system. In the mean time, increase your caffeine intake, and start eating less to boost your metabolism.

For future screens you might want to keep Zinc sulfate handy. Zinc will divert the thc metabolites that they test for in the urine screens to your poo. Take some the night before, and the morning of the screen, and that will help to mask the results, but it doesn't always work.

Also if you have the money, a lot of vitamin stores and I think gnc, have detox drinks. They're about $30. I don't know about they're accuracy, but it's worth a shot. Having a clean result is better than looking like your hiding something. It all depends on what's at risk, if it doesn't work, will you be able to handle the consequences?

And don't ever be ashamed about smoking pot, if it weren't illegal, you probably wouldn't feel so bad. Though if smoking pot does make you feel bad, don't smoke it!!!I did something bad, I need SERIOUS advice please?
No, it's in your system for a while. If you have to take a drug test today, you're screwed. You're going to need to have someone else pee in a water bottle for you. Put that water bottle underneath your clothes or in your purse possibly when you go in for your drug test. Then just pour it in the cup. You shouldn't have smoked pot before your drug test.. or at all since it's ILLEGAL!
That one is totally up in the air. If you got some cash get some stuff that flushes the system. Drink a ton of water. If its a saliva test they have something for that too.
Ughh that really sucks. If you're not a user why the heck did you use?

And it sucks, but i pretty much doubt it'll be out of your system.

    Good luck!
If you chug a bunch of water and are very active, your system might be clean by 2 weeks, but 3 days? You're screwed.
Actually its two weeks and if you take water pills and drink a lot of fluids it could be out as soon as 3 days. But your pretty much screwed about the test.
It takes about three months to be undetectable. It's fat soluble so it stays in your system.
Calm down its not a big deal. But no your system wont be clean. It stays in there anywhere from 2 weeks to a month.
    Drink vinegar.

If you have a local GNC, ask if they have anything to clean out your system (say you're a reformed addict)
you should drink lots of water and cranberry juice and it should be gone in about a day.
Nooo, THC stays in your system for at least a month
    start looking for a job
i beleive it takes about a month for it to be out of your system
Well, for one weed causes paranoia and right now you are pretty nervous lol that's one of its effects. And 2, yes it is still in your system. BUT that doesn't mean you won't pass this test =). OK, if you have some money about 40 bucks you can go to GNC where they sell cleaners, you know these drinks, you drink them boom your system is clean. There are a lot of places where you can get these drinks, sadly i don't know you area so I can't tell you exactly where and what not. Try those weed shops where they sell tons of bongs and crap. Or ask people hwo smoke weed on the regular they can also help you since they have experience with these kind of things. Now if all comes to worse, you can do this by yourself, drink alooooooooooooot of water 2 hours before the test, but a LOT!!!! honestly, by the gallons, the sucky part about this is that you will only pee water on that test they will know that, so they might let you get away with it or maybe not. Also you can bring a friend with you (that's clean) make him pee in a tiny medicine bottle right before you go in the place (pee needs to be warm) and hide it in your sock or somewhere (not your pocket) and use that. You are still in green my friend! =)
most of the people here have no clue what they are talking about.

well, THC normally stays in your system for 30 days... it can be reduced by working out, sweating a lot and drinking a lot of water. supposidly if you drink a glass of vinegar, you will be able to pass it... but honestly, you are going to get caught so i woudl suggest that maybe you get someone else's pee... depends on how bad you really need your job.

and honestly dont feel bad about smoking pot... out of all the drugs in the world, weed is the most harmless... hellooooo its a PLANT, you never hear any stories of ppl dying from weed....

and DONT go buy one of those 40 dollar drinks, its not a gurantee that it will work.
You've gotten a ton of really stupid advice.

Unfortunately it stays in your system for 14 days for urine, only 48 hours for blood and 6 months for hair follicle.

Drinking water won't help. You'll also pass the test if you just pour some water from the sink or toilet into the urine. Drinking water and pouring water in work the same way, they dilute the sample. Urine drug tests look for parts per million (PPM) so diluting the sample by adding more water either by drinking it or directly adding it add more millions of things besides the drugs. The problem is that all urine tests also test for specific gravity, that's in essence how many normal urine things are in the urine. If there's too much water you'll get tested again. But . . . that could give you the extra week you need to get clean.

I have been in a relationship for a while. This was the guy who was my first love and first kiss. But after kissing me a bunch one day, the very next he says he is going to a different school next year and he thinks we should break up and just be friends!!!

This was the guy who claimed to love me and always want to be with me forever. And he knew he was going to a different school but still kissed me a lot knowing that this would happen.

Now it's like his goal is to hurt me anyway possible whether it's saying he is kind of over it or that he can never talk and is always busy when i ask him for help getting through it.

THIS IS THE MOST UNBEARABLE UNDESCRIBABLE PAIN!!!!! I CAN'T TAKE IT!!!

Don't bother with stupid ';detox'; drinks, they're a complete gimmick. Don't drink too much water either, it's possible to kill yourself by drinking too much water.

  • My dog has bad leash manners...any advice???

My pup is about 9 mos. and her leash manners seem to be getting worse. She constantly pulls on her leash as soon as we step out of the door for her walk. I constantly pull her back and use the command 'slow' to try to get her to walk at my side but it doesn't phase her one bit. I rather not go pay someone to teach her when i know i can do it myself so any advice is greatly appreciated. I know they make those metal collars with 'teeth' that face inward that tighten on the dog's neck when they pull. Has anyone had success with these type of collars???

Thanks:)My dog has bad leash manners...any advice???
I suggest you both enroll in obedience class so you can both leash the proper way to use and walk on leash. Collars and harnesses don't cure the problem of pulling. My dog has bad leash manners...any advice???
We have a german shepherd pup, one year, approx 80 pounds. He used to pull (hard too) on the leash. My husband always said ';Heel'; and would pull him back towards him and would stop walking until 'Boss' would stop and sit next to him. Then my husband would start walking again. Everytime he pulled forward too far, my husband stopped, called ';Heel'; and waited for Boss to sit again. Eventually he got tired of it and got used to the walk.

Obedience class is always an option since she's still a pup!
There is a product called a Gentle Leader (there are others that are variations, as well.) I found it to be very effective - especially for my very large Golden Retriever.

The thing wraps around the dog's muzzle, and the leash attaches under the dog's chin. If the dog gets too far ahead, the design of the halter turns the dog's head back to face you. The dog learns pretty quickly that it can't get too far ahead!

After weeks of pulling on the golden's leash and scolding, I was able to walk her using two fingers within a few minutes.
I trained both of my chihuahua's by putting the leash on them and letting them walk around the house with it on for about 15 min at a time several times a day. They didnt like it at first, but they got used to it quickly. Only do this when you are with them so they wont get hung up on something or worse yet, hang themselves.
Yes. Pinch collars work wonders with dogs that pull, but I think it would be a huge advantage for you to go to training classes to learn how to use one properly. In a training class, you're not paying somebody else to train your dog, you're learning to do it yourself. This, IMO, is the hands-down best way to learn to train your dog.
My dog was horrible on her leash and the metal collar with teeth is called a pinch collar. When they pull the teeth pinch them. It took my dog one time getting pinched with it and now she is an angel on the leash. I still put the pinch on her every time we take a walk but it worked much better than a choke collar. The choke she just kept pulling on and gasping. I would recommend getting a pinch.
I think you should refer to one of those harness things, that way it wont hurt your dog. Before crossing ANY road, you should make her sit for 3 secs, then ';walk on'; this will train her to behave on the roads. Also when she pulls, try stopping until she comes back to your side. Or try simply pulling back on the leash when she pulls and saying heal or side or something, reward her when shes good. GOOD LUCK!!
    my do gdid that too.

i just started walking into the opposite direction so suddenly that i just puuled him, too.

he did not like that at all and after a while he realised when he pulls me, i start dragging him into the other way.so he quit.

but u gonna have to keep it up and stay hard, cause as soon as she sees that u ain麓t hard enough she麓ll get u.

and i think those typ of collars are awfull and my friends dog didn麓t care at all, he only got a blue toung cause he could not breath anymore
no spike collars, that's abuse. they make a plain old choke collar, i've bred and raised dobermans, and find that a stern grip and quick jerk with a no or heal, accomplished alot. be persistant, she will be the better for it. she will acknowledge you with much respect. try not to swat or anything. keep her moving a quick pace so she has no time to ';stop and smell the...'; well you get. exercise and persistance will be your key. stay monotone voiced as much as possible. try not to raised your voice unless absolutely nessecary. you will both be happier with the results, good luck and enjoy the kisses, she will be full of them.
A dog trainer told me to make sure the dog knows that the owner is dominant. Make sure that you go outside FIRST when letting your dog out. This is part of them understanding that they need to heal and walk beside or behind you. If you let your dog out first - they will never get the concept. Good luck -
Yes but it depends on the breed and if you are using that collar right. The person that answered to enroll in obedience has it right.

I used to feel exactly like you about the cost etc.. BUT after seeing how it helps with socializing and the new things you learn and friends etc I am a firm believer in going ahead and enrolling. BUT find someone GOOD that knows their stuff. Ask a vet or ask around.

Until then a much easier and miricle working leash is the GENTLE LEADER.

They are a tad expensive so you might want to shop online first. Good luck.
You are talking about a prong collar. This is only for people who know what they are doing to use on their dogs. A 9 month old shouldn't need that. All you need right now is some basic obedience and training lessons. Its very much worth it.
The collar is not my favorite method. I use it for fear biters and other dog aggressive dogs.

You need a good obedience CLASS - not just fancy equipemnt. You also need to work with your dog every day - outside of walks and playtime.
try a halti or a gentle leader.

    http://www.premier.com/View.aspx?page=do鈥?/a>
hi my english springer spaniel is the same we recently brought her a gentle leader and that has helped so much it works in the same way as a head collar on a horse.
A anti-pulling harness can be very effective Do not get a Choke Collar with teeth if you don't know how to properly use it they can do damage
she will learn eventuly not to, my dogs do that but there rarely on leashes
I hate prong collars. They can be effective, but I think it can be done more effectively with a good old fashioned choke chain. Used properly, they are not cruel and in time, once your dog hears the links clinking together, you won't even need to correct the dog, it will correct itself.

Make sure you get a choke chain to fit the dog properly. It should barely slide over the dogs head and you should be able to hold it close to the head and directly behind the ears. These are sensitive pressure points on a dog and you WILL get a dog to react if you correct the dog firmly but not cruelly when the choke is directly behind the ears. There's lots to read online about the correct use of a choke chain for training. It will take some time but soon, you'll have the dog walking WITH you instead of dragging you out the door.

    Taken from www.essortment.com:

A choke collar can be an invaluable training aid for you and your dog. Used properly, a choke chain is both humane and effective. Used improperly, choke collars are ineffective and dangerous. Be aware pug dogs or other flat-faced canines should not use a choke chain or collar as it can cause serious harm. Luckily, it's very easy to use one properly.

    **A Good Fit

First, you should select the collar appropriate for your dog. Choke collars tend to come in one of three varieties: nylon, chain, or a prong collar. While all three operate on the same principle, this article discusses the effective fitting and use of a chain collar.

Start by measuring your dog's net. No need to be terribly scientific, just wrap a piece of string or length of fabric around his neck, an inch or so behind his ears. Slip two of your fingers under the string, and then cut it so that it's 2 1/2 inches longer than that. This is the collar length you'll need.

Now take your string--and your dog, too, if you can--to the store. Purchase a collar the same length as your string. The ';collar'; will be a straight length of chain made of specially shaped links with a circular loop or ring at either end. If you brought your pooch, try it on your dog.

Note that a choke chain is not a do-it-yourself proposition. The links are designed so that the metal rings slide over them easily, without catching.

A collar that fits properly is one that can still slip over your dog's head, but is slightly snug when fitted behind your pup's ears. It should have room for you to slip at least two fingers underneath while still having about two inches of leftover chain.

To form a collar out of the chain, drop the chain through one of its rings. If that's too difficult to visualize, try it this way: place the chain on a flat surface. Fold one third of the chain over itself. One of the end rings should be on top of the chain. Pull that bit of chain through the ring.

    **Wear it properly

Even though the collar is just a loop of chain, there's a proper way to wear it. These instructions assume that when you work with your dog, he is to your left. If you walk your dog to the right side, then reverse the instructions.

With your dog in front of you, arrange the chain in your hands so that it forms the shape of the letter P. The end of the chain with the empty ring should be on the left, and the ring should be down. Now slip it over your dog's head. You do this because a choke collar works on a yank and release principle. It'll yank no matter how you have it on, but it will only release quickly if you've done it right.

Pull the collar up a little, so it rests behind the dog's ears.

**A choke collar means no nonsense

Your dog should only wear the collar when it's business time. No matter how dashing, it's not apparel for every occasion.

    Use the collar when you're training or whenever you're sure you're going to enforce commands. Putting the collar on the dog tells your dog, ';you need to pay extra attention to me for what we're doing next.';

Do not use the collar on everyday, meandering walks, when the dog is unsupervised, or without a leash attached. A choke collar chokes. An unattended animal could get caught on something and then choke himself.

    **Attention and correction

A choke collar is used both to remind your dog you need his attention and to correct the dog. The former is simply a matter of procedure and routine. The latter is the ';choke';.

Don't think that choking is going to leave your dog coughing and wheezing. Worn correctly, the collar releases very quickly. The device is meant to simulate the way in which momma-dogs grab miscreant offspring by the back of the head with a little shake. That's why you move it up around the ears.

To perform a correction, pull the collar or a leash attached to it firmly and quickly. Say ';No!'; while doing so in a firm voice. Release the tension just as soon as you apply it. The release is the difference between a humane, effective correction and literally choking your dog.

In time, you'll hardly ever need to issue a correction. The collar is helpful for people who can't communicate authority with their voice, or for dogs that are easily distracted. The dog will view the collar as a signal that he's working and should give his attention to you. So get a good fit, wear it properly, remember to release the chain, and, while you correct a dog for misbehavior, remember to reward him for the good.
I use a face harness. The brand name is Halti, but there are other kinds that are just as effective. When your dog pulls, her face will be pulled down, and as that is uncomfortable, she won't want to pull. I think the spike things are cruel, and unnecessary.

Your dog probably needs more off lead time, she will pull much less if she is well exercised.

You might also want to try a non-violent dominance technique, that will ensure you are the alpha, and your dog listens to you. At the end of a day, when you will be sitting for at least an hour (say watching TV, reading the paper), make her sit, down, stay by your feet. The first day, she will want to get up and do what she wants to do. Put the lead on her, have her sit, down, stay, and then put your foot on the lead close to her head so she has to stay put. You will only need to do this the first day. Dogs are very practical animals, they will do what is convenient. Do this for a week.

The next week you do the same thing, but a little distance away from you

The third week, you put her across the room from you, in a partially obstructed view

The last week, she is in another room, and has to stay there until you call her.

This is very effective in getting your dog to obey you. You can repeat this if she ';forgets'; who is in charge. Just making her stay will re-enforce who is in charge.

Never underestimate the value of a trainer. A well behaved, well socialized dog is a joy. Ten to fifteen yrs with a rowdy, untrained animal very unpleasant. It is always great when your dog is welcome everywhere, because she knows how to act, and what is expected of her.
I have had great success with the basic choke chain. And about a 15 to 20 foot leash, how it works is you place the dog in a create for about 2 hr before you take the dog to park or a field where you can walk about 10 to 20 paces. Stop and as soon as the dog is not looking start to walk away from the dog. Don鈥檛 look or pet the dog while you do this in about 1 to 4 days the dog will begin to watch you and not everything else. Don鈥檛 jerk on the leash just walk. And hold on to the end of loop with both hands do this for about 30 to 45 min every day and watch the results. The dog will actually start to heel on their own.

Note: make sure that you walk a square pattern stopping at the corners wait for the dog to not be paying attention to you. But don鈥檛 look or praise the dog just walk. After each session just drop the leash and stand on it for about 10 min. relaxed and the take the dog home don鈥檛 play or feed dog for 1 hour treat the session just like it just as normal part of life. I would try not to use the pinch collar unless the dog is a large dog and you can not control it or it is too strong, but only as last resort. Also try to do this in the cool part of day.
Don't use any training tool without proper guidance. Yes the collars work on some dogs but you SHOULD NOT use them on a puppy. They do NOT cure the problem, they just make it more manageable.

Enroll in a basic obedience course - it is well worth the money. You get to learn the proper way to train the dog AND the dog gets to socialize.

Until then: When the pup pulls, you STOP and wait. When the pup comes back to you give her a treat. If that doesn't work then sharply turn yourself around and walk the other way - both methods teach her that if she pulls, she doesn't get to go where she wants to go. It worked for my puppy.
Start of by making her wait at the door.

    When you put your hand on the door handle, say ';wait' and open the door-if she tries to bolt, shut the door as fast as you can, or step in her way. Then repeat it until you can open the door and she sits there looking like ';You can't fool me, I know you're just going to close it again.';

Then tell her what a good girl she is, and say ';go on'; or some sort of a 'release' phrase so she knows that she doesn't have to wait anymore.

    Before you jump ahead and use a prong collar, try doing a few things instead;

When you are walking her, and she begins to pull-immediately do a 180 and start walking in the opposite direction. This will force her to come and walk the other way. When she does it in that direction, change directions again. IWhen she is walking at your side, without pulling on the leash, or even ahead of you and still allowing the leash to have slack, then tell her what a good girl she is.

Another way to do this is to just stop dead in your tracks when she begins to pull. Don't say anything, don't do anything, just stop and stand there. When she turns around and looks at you, then you can say ';good girl'; and carry on. She'll realize that when she pulls, everything stops. I've never worked this way, but the last trainer I took my pup to for puppy obedience reccommended doing this.

It can be pretty patience-trying when you do this, but it does work. She needs to realize that by pulling, she will not get where she wants to get to, and if she walks on a loose leash, then she gets to carry on and keep walking.

Prong collars work well, but the dog has to know what it is doing wrong before you can start correcting it. Therefore, the dog has to know what the command ';slow down'; or ';heel'; means, before you can correct it for doing it incorrectly, or not doing it at all. If you begin correcting before your dog thoroughly understands what your command means to do, then you will just be beating a dead horse, because the dog will not understand. No collars or harnesses are magic-tools that will solve problems-pinch, choke, and prong collars are all used for correction (in which case, as i said, your dog must know the command 100% before he/she can be corrected for doing it wrong). Every harness or collare requries some sort of training along with it.
